Hands as hands

In "Hands as hands" I seek to portray intimacy by examining the gestures of hands. The word ‘intimacy’ can encompass closeness, fragility, warmth, comfort, and much more. But the hands in a picture were able to express more emotions than I had imagined. I varied the gestures of the hands - and I always had an emotional expression or existential experience in mind. Sometimes the tenderness was obvious to see in the picture, at other times it turned into aggression without me seeking that emotion in any way. How can we understand this? I found that an area of psychology on 'social movements' showed that hands can evoke a range of emotions. I decided to depict warm feelings but also struggle, vulnerability, and loneliness. In depicting emotional states, I added the handkerchiefs from "Where is the crying."
